Bible Week

BIBLE WEEK 2006

Christians from all walks of life this year celebrated the Bible from 2nd to 9th September 2006. The week with the theme “GOD’S LIVING WORD,LIFE FOR ALL” opened with a Bible March from 8:00 a.m, Bible Rally from 10:00 culminating into the launch of the First Chichewa Audio Bible.  All this happened at Kamuzu Stadium which was spiced by performances from different musical groups including those from Scotland as well as recitals.  The week closed on 9th September with the launch of the Sena Bible at Nsanje Community Centre Ground. Similar events took place in Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Zomba and Balaka.

Amongst the dignitaries was the Chief Justice Leonard Unyolo who was the Guest of Honor in Blantyre, Mr. Paul Hoekstra of Talking Bible International and Gwynth Duff Team Leader of the 13-man Scottish team.  The week came to a close with the launch of Sena Bible in Nsanje which was presided over by the First Deputy Speaker Hon. Esther Mcheka Chilenje as Guest of Honor.  Mr. David Hammond, The Africa Area Secretary of UBS based in Kenya and Mr. Barry Funnel leading a team from Word for the World also patronized the event in Nsanje.  The Minister of Information and Tourism, Hon. Patricia Kaliati was Guest of Honor at Lilongwe event which was held at Masintha Ground and was accompanied by the wife of the Inspector General of Police, Mrs. Kumbambe.  The Bible Rally which took place on 9th September was preceded by Bible March from two points; Falls Baptist Church and Majiga bus stage in Area 23.

During this week all Christians were called upon to read, listen and promote Bible usage and encourage others to have a copy of the Bible. It is this week that as a nation we should pledge our allegiance to God and deliberately affirm our commitment to God’s infallible Word as our only means of national survivor according to the Preachers who spoke during all the events.  Financial and material contributions made during this week went towards the Yao Translation Project.  We declare that God’s Word is Light, Life and Hope for all.

The First Chichewa Audio Bible was recorded in May this year at Trans World Radio studios in Lilongwe but it has been packaged in China through Talking Bible International as partner agency.  The Audio Bible contains portions from the Old Testament and the New Testament. It is also pleasing to note that for the first time Sena speakers will have their first full Bible in their own language.  The translation of Sena Bible has taken 10 years to be completed.
