The Great June 2007 Bible Relay Race
On 14th June 2007, The Bible Society of Malawi organized a Bible Relay Race from Luchenza to Bible House in Blantyre, a distance of 64.5 kilometers. The event was organized to raise funds for Elhomwe Bible Translation Project.
Hundreds of people turned out at the Translation Office in Luchenza, Thyolo district, to kick-start the race. It was exciting to see old people, women with babies on their backs running the first 2.8km of the first leg.
The race started at 7.30am and finished at 3.00pm. The Chief Justice Leonard Unyolo participated in the last leg of the race.
32 choir groups were stationed in all the over 15 points to sing to the glory of God and cheer the runners.
The event is expected to raise about 1.2 million Kwacha (about $8,000).
